What is the difference between a sworn translation and a legal translation?
Sworn translations are a formal requirement that certain entities demand to ensure the quality of the translation they are going to receive and its accuracy with regard to the original text. You can even order a sworn translation of a concert ticket or the instructions of a watch! Sworn translations must bear the translator’s seal on all pages and include a certificate of accuracy at the end.
A legal translation is any translation of a text whose subject matter is law. If you add a sworn translator’s seal and certificate of accuracy to a legal translation, you get a sworn legal translation.
How can I know if a sworn translator has translated my text?
The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Union, and Cooperation has a search engine where you can verify if your translator has been duly appointed by the Ministry.

How is the cost of a translation estimated?
Translations are typically charged per word. Translators also have a minimum fee that covers the time they spend formatting, translating, revising, printing, stamping, and scanning the translated document. Even if the original text only contains a few words, it needs to meet all the requirements we mentioned in the first section. Making sure all requirements are met takes time, and this time needs to be reflected in the final price.
Are there any bulk discounts?
There are no bulk discounts in the translation industry because, contrary to what happens in, say, a shoe factory, we do not see a reduction in the fabrication cost of each extra unit we produce. The time a translator spends on a text is proportional to the length of that text. If a translator were to give a bulk discount, they could end up working for a price that does not even reach their minimum acceptable rate.
What steps should I take to get a quote?
- Send us an email with your document with the best resolution possible. Please avoid all external elements such as tables, tablecloths, hands, etc. Remember your document will be filed before an authority and you want to make a good impression.
- We will answer your email as soon as possible offering a fixed price and an estimated delivery date. Please note that if you do not accept the quote immediately the delivery date may vary accordingly, or we may need to apply a charge for expedited service to meet shorter delivery times.
- If you accept our quote, we will send you an electronically signed copy of the sworn translation in PDF. A hard copy can also be sent by post or by courier when needed.
Why can I not translate my text with the use of AI or automated translation tools?
Automated translation tools and AI are very useful to get a general idea of the content of a text. However, they tend to deliver very literal translations, with the use of many calques. This is very dangerous, especially when the outcome of an administrative procedure or a company’s reputation, a legal proceeding, or the quarterly results of a company are on the line. Only expert translators with deep knowledge of the subject are capable of extracting all the nuances of a text so that the client is not left in the lurch at a key moment. It is at these key moments where the wrong word can draw the line between an authorised and a denied procedure.
What is the professional background of the translator who will be in charge of my translation?
Our CEO, Pilar Moyano, has a degree in translation and interpreting from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. She also has a double graduate degree in trade and international finance from the Universidad de Barcelona and is currently studying for an LLB from UNED.
She has been an in-house translator both for a law firm and for an investment bank, as well as for a translation agency, where she worked as a legal and financial translator. Pilar Moyano is a sworn translator appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Union, and Cooperation and is a Chartered Linguist appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
